Root certificate

LocalCan automatically creates a Root Certificate Authority (CA) upon installation. This Root CA is used to generate server certificates for HTTPS connections. To establish trust between your local network and the certificates generated by LocalCan, you need to add the Root CA to your trusted certificate authorities.

To trust the Root CA on your system:

  1. In LocalCan, navigate to the Root certificate section in the sidebar.
  2. Use the three-dots menu and click on the "Trust".
  3. Follow the prompts to add the Root CA to your trusted certificate authorities.

Once the Root CA is trusted, any certificates generated by LocalCan will be recognized and also trusted on your system.

To trust the Root CA on other devices or in the iOS simulator, follow these steps:

  1. In LocalCan, navigate to the Root certificate section in the sidebar.
  2. Use the three-dots menu and click on the "Download".
  3. Save the Root CA certificate file.
  4. If you want to trust the Root CA in the iOS simulator:
    • Open the iOS simulator.
    • Drag and drop the downloaded Root CA certificate file onto the simulator window. It will prompt you to install the certificate.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  5. If you want to trust the Root CA on an iPhone or iPad:
    • Use AirDrop to transfer the downloaded Root CA certificate file to your iPhone or iPad.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
    • Enable the certificate, go to Settings → General → About → Certificate Trust Settings. Under "Enable full trust for root certificates," turn on LocalCan certificate.

By following these steps, you can trust the LocalCan Root CA on additional devices and in iOS simulators, allowing secure communication and seamless testing of your app across different devices.
